Timeline of The Paul and Lisa Program, Inc.


1980
In October, The Paul and Lisa Program officially began with seed money from St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Westbrook, Connecticut.

1983
Already accepted as an incorporated business, the Paul & Lisa Program achieved its 501(c)(3) charitable organization status in April of 1983.

1984
The Prevention Education Program flourished with over 110 presentations given to churches, schools, private companies and social service organizations and civic clubs

1985
The Paul & Lisa Program participated in the Connecticut Child Abuse Task Force.

1988
The Paul & Lisa Program was awarded a grant from the Department of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention for the purposes of Prevention Education.

The Paul & Lisa Program was awarded a grant from the Office of Victims of Crime for the Street Outreach Program.

The Paul & Lisa Program appeared on the national television show 48 Hours.

A total of 98 presentations were completed in both Connecticut and New York, with a total audience of over 6,200 youth and adults.

1991
The Paul & Lisa Program was introduced to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

By December 1991, the Paul & Lisa education program reached over 67,000 youth and adults since its inception.

1993
By the end of 1993, the Paul & Lisa Program had reached 76,000 youth and adults through the education program since its inception.

1994
Daphnae Koop, consultant to the Paul & Lisa Program, created the concept of a Community Court based program to address the rehabilitation needs of women who were repeatedly arrested on prostitution charges. Through the structured and meaningful curriculum, the program was designed to increase the women’s self-esteem and encourage an assessment of physical and emotional needs. The Paul & Lisa Program called this program the Women’s Holistic Health Education Program.

1995
New York City’s Midtown Community Court Director John Feinbladtt facilitated the implementation of the Women’s Holistic Health Education curriculum proposed by Daphnae Koop into the Midtown Community Court system.

1996
The Paul & Lisa Program, Inc. developed RISSK Magazine, Risks, Issues and Safety Strategies for Kids. Funding restrictions prevented the publication of further issues. The Prevention Education Program evolved to incorporate Internet Safety.

2001
The Women’s Holistic Health Education Program, developed by Daphnae Koop, was implemented in the Hartford and Waterbury Community Court systems. In the first year of the program 89 women were served. The Community Court personnel labeled this program, “Prostitution Protocol.”

By December, 132 school-based Prevention Education presentations were conducted throughout Connecticut reaching over 2750 children and young adults.

2002
The Paul & Lisa Program sponsors a training session to educate the Connecticut Department of Justice, local FBI Agents, State police and the Department of Child and Family Services on the commercial sexual exploitation of children.

The Women’s Holistic Health Education Program is awarded a three year contract through the judicial branch of the State of Connecticut. The Honorable Judge Simon required that the program longer be called “Prostitution Protocol” by court personnel, but more appropriately, The Women’s Holistic Health Education Program.

2003
The Paul & Lisa Program, Inc. was awarded two federal grants from the Office Of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention: Project Prevent and Project Conquer. Project Prevent funded the Prevention Education Program and Project Conquer funded the Street Outreach Program.

2004
This year, fifty-four women were served through the Women’s Holistic Health Education Program, now in its third year in the Hartford and Waterbury Community Court.

2005
This year, sixty-nine women were served through the Women’s Holistic Health Education Program, now in its fourth year in the Hartford and Waterbury Community Courts.

2006
In March the Education Prevention Program was redesigned. By December 2006, the new Education Presentation Program reaches more than 1, 300 students in Connecticut.

The Founder and President retires in June 2006. Bruce Lehman is voted in as President and Chairperson of the Board of Directors.

Our 25th Anniversary Gala is held at the beautiful Water’s Edge Resort and Spa in Westbrook, Connecticut.

The Women’s Holistic Health Education Program serves 69 women.
