Paul & Lisa - Help prevent sexual exploitation

Community Court-based Rehabilitation
In 1994-95, in conjunction with the Midtown Community Court in Manhattan, (an alternate sentencing court program for those arrested on non-felony offenses), Paul & Lisa launched a court based alternate sentence pilot program for women arraigned for prostitution. Today, this successful model program utilizes a support group approach to address the physical and emotional needs of sexually exploited young women. Through lecture, group discussion, relaxation and workbook exercise, participants explore new lifestyle directions.

Prevention Education
Empowers youth, families and communities through education. Sensitive, age-appropriate programs are offered for students at the secondary and undergraduate levels, for adults, and for community groups. This program explains the dangers of running away, the role of drugs in sexual exploitation, the profile of chronic run-away behavior, and how to prevent abduction. Crisis counseling/referral services are provided on a case-by-case basis.

In today's world prevention and education go hand in hand. There is no better way to safeguard our children than to equip them with the knowledge and safety strategies necessary to protect them in times of jeopardy and peril.

Outreach / Streetwork
The Paul & Lisa staff establish rapport with sexually exploited street children, youth and young adults, many of whom have been failed repeatedly by "mainstream" support services. Outreach staff work toward building a trust relationship with these exploited children and young adults, while helping them to understand that opportunities for rehabilitation do exist and that they have the potential to redirect their lives. Follow-up services include safe home arrangements, health care, and assistance in returning home when feasible.
